History
This one-owner vessel has always been a live-aboard… with all the attention to maintenance that this ensures. Her passagemaking includes a seven-year cruise of Puget Sound and British Columbia waters, then a complete bluewater outfitting for a 3-year circling of the Pacific 1990-1993 — Mexico to New Zealand to Japan, then across the North Pacific to Canada.

And then again a complete re-outfitting incorporating all the points learned on the first cruise (look in specs below for all the 2001-2004 refurbishing!) for a two-year cruise to Mexico 2004-2006. This last voyage was only a southbound (downwind ) sail, as the boat returned to Pacific Northwest via DockWise (freighter) Transport. No significant cruises since…

Out-of-water survey during her August 2010 haulout for bottom-painting (copy available) gave valuation of $165k, with report of findings and recommendations = “none” !! This vessel is truly ready to untie the lines and go voyaging.

Walkthru
Cockpit is fully lined with teak timber staving defining the all-around backrests, yet there’s still substantial side-decks outboard of backrests. Overboard-vented propane locker; access is cut into aft decking outside of the cockpit. Full-width bridgedeck at cockpit-seating height allows for alfresco sleeping athwartship, as well as fore-aft lounging/sleeping along either side. Teak-rimmed destroyer-style wheel mounted to classic bronze binnacle. Two very large round portlights on aft end of cabin give helmsman the view of in-cabin radar or in-cabin forward- & side-scanning sonar. Note wide side-decks, un-encumbered, as the jibsheet car track is on the caprail, and the staysail-sheet car track is on the cabin top. The Tinker folding-rigid-bottom inflatable dinghy (with CO2-inflated survival canopy) fits ahead of the mast, and the Ranger “Minto” fiberglass lapstrake sailing dinghy fits atop the Tinker.

Companionway is completely protected by Stamoid dodger; a cockpit bimini sunshade attaches to dodger, and four 55w Siemens solar panels reside atop dodger. Note that the mainsheet traveler is out-of-the-way, forward of the dodger!

Entering cabin, the companionway stairs remove like a Chinese puzzle, for engine-access and a slide-out workbench. The master stateroom is immediately to Starboard; features a full-width double quarterberth warmed by hydronic heat, a short settee, and a vanity sink laid into a marble countertop. 58-gallon fueltank is below the berth. Directly forward of this stateroom is a hanging locker heated by one of several passive radiators in the hydronic heating system. The salon proper begins with an aft-facing nav-table, then a linear settee (storage behind, above and under!), ending with a conversion of the OEM wine-rack and crystal storage, now more practical as tool and spares storage.

Portside, there’s a very long (7′!) quarterberth next to the companionway stairs, with another 30-gallon fueltank below. Directly ahead of the companionway is an offshore-safe J-shaped galley with centerline double-sinks, a secure wedge-in space for the cook between the sink-cabinet and the large 11 cubic-foot fridge, and a Princess 3-burner propane stove with oven. Ahead of the galley, the large U-shaped settee portside surrounds a teak table with inlaid marble chess-board; table encompasses the gorgeous heart-of-rosewood compression-post. Again, since there’s no tankage under this settee either, it’s voluminous storage beneath, behind, and above the cushions.

The head is reached from a salon-access door, or (further into the passageway forward) a second door communicating with the forepeak stateroom. This room features yet another wide double berth (off to Starboard), flanked by a small curved dressing settee and a large hanging locker.

The entire interior is constructed of rich old-growth Burmese teak, rock-hard, showing very little wear. Cabin overhead has been freshly re-enamelled. Cabin sole is thick genuine teak and holly (not veneer). There’s two large clear opening deck-hatches over the salon table, and a third one in the forepeak stateroom; each has inside plastic “storm-windows” for winter warmth. Excellent ventilation from many opening portlights and four large-cowl dorades; every opening including the companionway are fitted with removable screens, essential for tropics cruising.

Hull
Full-keel, encapsulated cast-iron ballast. Canoe-stern. Solid fiberglass hull; not cored. Stripped to gelcoat and epoxy-barrier-coated (2005)

Sails and rigging
Full suit of NeilPryde CruisePlus Tradewinds sails (2004) — all Tanbark, includes main, genoa or yankee for forestay, staysail. Asymetrical spinnaker with sock. Code Zero reacher mounted on removable Harken gennaker-furler (2001).

Telescoping line-control whisker-pole (2004).

Most winches are Maxwell bronze two-speed; primaries are Lewmar 54 Self-tailing (2000). Hydraulic aft-stay adjuster. Bronze traveler track atop companionway slider, thus forward of dodger.

Mariner cruising roller-furlers on both forestay and inner forestay; these allow hanked-on sails for quick changes — these do not “reef” the jibs, but roll them away at end-of-cruise.

Mast and boom were taken down to bare-metal and re-coated with DuPont Imron “spruce gold” (2001).

Standing rigging replaced with 316 wire and Sta-Lok terminals (2001).

Running Rigging replaced with Sta-Set, Sta-Set X, and Spectra T900 (2001)

Most blocks replaced with Garhauer roller-bearing SSTL blocks (2001)

Unique folding bowsprit with massive SSTL hinge: pop the pin on the bobstay, and raise to vertical, to shorten vessel’s length overall from nearly 50′ to 42′ — has paid for itself many times over in reduced moorage costs, and (especially) in lowered transport costs on DockWise Transport!

Deck Gear
Lofrans Tigres anodized-aluminum windlass (1995). 45# genuine CQR plow anchor; 44# genuine Bruce anchor. Two stern anchor-rollers; 18# Danforth-pattern SSTL stern anchor.

Bow pulpit and Stern pushpit are fabricated of 1 1/2″ SSTL tubing. Lifelines replaced (1998). Mast-pulpits with belaying pins give safety at mast.

Bowsprit and Samson Posts are made of Apitong (tough as ironwood!)

Mystic SSTL swim-ladder attaches to sail-track on caprail, either side.

Monitor windvane, with lots of spares including three vanes, two paddles…

Large SSTL dorade scoops (removable, with screw-in caps) mount atop dorade-boxes integrally molded with cabintop.

Garhauer outboard lift attached to wind-generator pole; easily lifts outobard from dinghy, also simplifies mounting of windvane.

Full Sunbrella winter cover, draping over lifelines, ventilated by fabric cowls (a $10k investment!)

New Sunbrella mainsail cover (2010)

9′ Ranger “Minto” fiberglass sailing/rowing dinghy with all sailing gear; Tinker folding rigid-bottom inflatable, with CO2-inflating survival canopy.

Navigation and Entertainment Electronics
Furuno model 1800 CRT radar, visible from cockpit or cabin, includes optional “guard-zone” alarm. Interphase color forward- or side-looking sonar, visible from cockpit or cabin.

Standard-Horizon masthead windspeeed/direction, boatspeed, and depth meters in instrument console over main hatch.

Compass inside bronze binnacle. Second “pilot-compass” mounted above forepeak berth.

Icom M402 VHF with Ram-Mic (2002); Icom M700Pro SSB, SGC230 auto-tuner (2001); backstay antenna. SCS Pactor IIex modem for e-mail at-sea.

Garmin GPS 162, at nav-station.

20″ Sharp Flatscreen TV; AudioVox Home-Theater Surround-Sound DVD; Standard-Horizon Stereo with Jensen 6-disc changer

Raritan PH II manual toilet for easy maintenance.

Whale Gusher shower sump pump — diaphragm-style; handles hair without need for high-maintenance strainer.

Thermostatically controlled SSTL shower-mixer valve, automatically mixes hot
& cold to perfect temp no matter the variation in source — no scalding, no freezing!

Tankage
Three water tanks: 80, 80, and 40 gallon (under cabin sole)

Two fuel tanks: 58 and 30 gallon (under quarterberths)

Holding tank

Engine
Yanmar 4JH3-TE 75hp turbo diesel, installed 2002; 1020 hours. 7-knot cruise at only 2600rpm, 3/4gph — can go to 3800 rpm and over 8 knots.

Starboard side of engine-room is mirrored for easy inspection!

Racor dual 500 filter system with vacuum gage; “Tank-Tender” pneumatic fuel-gage reads both tanks.

Automatic / manual fire-suppression system mounted direcly over engine.

Electrical
Balmar 110 Amp high-output alternator; additional high-output spare aboard. Balmar MaxCharge “smart” regulator; a back-up TriCycle regulator, permanently-wired, is instantly switch-selectable.

Heart-Interface 1kW inverter, separate StatPower TrueCharge 3-stage battery charger.

Two battery-banks: four golf-cart batteries store 430 amps; four S4 batteries store another 630 amps. Both sets will be replaced at time of sale!

Four Siemens 55 watt solar panels. Air-X Marine wind-generator has been seen to yield as much as 28 amps.

Heating
Webasto diesel hydronic furnace, plumbed through-out the cabins: hot water circulates under berths, even inside hanging wet-locker, and heats cabins from two fan-forced units and half-a-dozen passive radiators. Same system can be heated from engine. Summer/Winter valve allows nearly-instant heating of domestic water even without heating the cabin; heated water stored in 5-gal “everhot” tank.

Galley
11 cubic foot fridge is now divided, with half as cool dry storage, the other half seriously refrigerated by Adler-Barber “SuperColdMachine”, air-cooled in ambient temps below 90 degrees, or water-cooled (not by salt-water, but by dumping heat into one of the three freshwater tanks — one less thru-hull…). Foot-operated salt and fresh water spigots, as well as pressure h&c water faucet. Original stove replaced 1998 with Princess propane stove; not necessary to “belt-in” for offshore cooking as the wedge-in tight-space forward of the stove is much safer. Microwave runs off 1kW inverter.
